Avril Coulton was educated in Reading, Berkshire, excelling in athletics she represented Berkshire Schools in the All-England Javelin event at 16.
She joined the Midland Bank, moving on to personnel recruitment before marrying and moving to Christchurch.
She has a daughter, son and grandchildren. She served on all her children’s school’s PTA’s. Once her daughter and son were older, she channelled her energies into forming a successful school uniform business covering the Dorset area.
Avril became a Magistrate, sitting monthly in either Christchurch, Bournemouth or Poole’s Magistrates Court, she also sat with Judges in the Crown Court.
She worked at Heathrow, Swanwick and Hurn for the National Air Traffic Services until retirement.
Avril volunteers at the Macmillan Caring Locally Unit in Christchurch, she finds this very rewarding, helping patients, doctors, nurses and visitors in an immensely supportive hospice.
Attending the Christchurch Residents Association opened up a new aspect of Christchurch life. She realised that she could make a difference and really help the community and areas in and around Christchurch by joining and becoming their secretary, she is still on the committee and regularly attends their monthly meetings.
She supports and is a member of the Friends of Druitt Gardens where she helps with planting, clearing and going to the tip!
In 2019 she stood as a Christchurch Town Councillor for Priory Ward, Avril was delighted to be elected and has worked hard over the last three years to defend the interests and concerns of residents, keeping them informed plus assisting with controversial planning applications in the town.
